Vietnam

Lake Hanoi at 5am, when the whole city gets up to exercise before the morning heat arrives!

View from an early morning hike up through fog and bamboo from the our homestay village of Ban Ho.

Two happy young children show off their baby birds to a stranger with a camera.

A rice patty above the valley of Ban Ho.  Thousands of individual rice plants grow in the many patties carved into the hillsides all over Vietnam.

A bottle of New Zealand's 'Cloudy Bay' wine, offered up on a junk boat in the middle of Ha Long Bay, northern Vietnam.

A woman walks through the center of the courtyard in the mountain village of Sapa, northern Vietnam.

Jason enjoys a Tiger, Vietnam's most popular beer, while lunching in a bamboo floored, lofted house.

Bamboo irrigation provides water to many Vietnamese villages from springs higher up in the mountains.  Bamboo is an almost unlimited resource, as it is quick to regrow and covers much of the country.
I was lucky enough to travel to Vietnam in June 2006, along with 10 other students and an inspiring teacher on U of D's first study abroad to the country.  We took classes in photojournalism and service learning, interacting with our host country as much as possible, and documenting the entire experience.  It is a beautiful country with beautiful people that I loved visiting.
